Dinosaurs Love Fairy Cakes kicked off in earnest in the summer of 2018, the brainchild of local mums, Amy Shannon and Zoe Paterson. We were definitely not the first people to have spotted that there's a huge gap in the market for a play cafe in the historic city of York.
We can't be exactly sure why this hasn't happened yet. Our best guess is that spaces big enough for a play cafe have a hefty ground rent and are hard to come by - but we thought we’d give it a go anyway!
At the start of 2020 we were good to go, we’d found a suitable space, got all the funding in place and were on the cusp of signing a lease when COVID 19 hit.
For now things are on hold because of the pandemic. Zoe is currently flying solo on the project, Amy has decided to step away for family reasons. We are both gutted about this but I (Zoe) am still hopeful about making the cafe happen.
I moved to York in 2014 with my husband, Jim. Six years later, I have a house, a daughter and a cat. My background is in design and event management. I spent a decade working on the BBC's national music radio networks before changing direction and running my own successful events business and programming events for prestigious members club Soho House.
I am determind to make Dinosaurs Love Fairy Cakes a permanent fun place for families in York.
