Two mothers, one crazy dream...
We're not the first local mums to have spotted that there's a huge gap in the market for a play cafe in the historic city of York. We can't be exactly sure why this hasn't happened yet. Our best guess is that spaces big enough for a play cafe have a hefty ground rent and are hard to come by - but hey, we're giving this a go anyway!
We are Amy Shannon and Zoe Paterson. We met when a mutual friend set us up on a blind date after we moved to York from London and were feeling a bit lost and without a tribe to hang out with.
Amy has lived in Nottingham, Manchester, Italy and London and loves to travel. She and her Yorkshire husband Eddie decided to move back to York to raise their menagerie of animals and children and to be closer to family. Amy's background is in teaching both in the U.K. and abroad (with a spot of retail management thrown in!) She specialised in Early Years education and is constantly inspired by children. She once ran an early years department with 150 children under her wing and her passion in life is to give children wonderful play opportunities whilst supporting families to spend quality time together.
Zoe moved to York in 2014 having decided she was done living in London. She and her husband, Jim hatched a plan to job hunt wherever they had friends in the UK, Jim landed a job in York. Five years later, they have a house, a daughter and a cat. Zoe's background is in media and event management. She spent a decade working on the BBC's national music radio networks before changing direction and running her own successful events business and programming events for prestigious members club Soho House.
Both Amy and Zoe have had some wonderful and ridiculous adventures within their various careers and they both hope to add to their varied and vast experiences to make Dinosaurs Love Fairy Cakes a permanent fun place for families in York.
Stick with us, it'll be great.
